Arrgh! You are correct there are errors in the observed altitudes.
The error is a rounding one. For consistency of units, I reported
the observed altitude rather than the direct sextant readings because
my sextant reads to 10 seconds rather than tenths or fifths of a
minute. The degree portion of the observed altitudes with minutes
portion above one half a degree were rounded up by the computer when
I shortened them to zero decimal places for this post.
Thank you also for drawing the distinction between the method of
reducing the sight, for direct methods, and the inputs into the
method.
