This is what I've done.

There is an organization called The American Sailing Association. It is one
of two organizations that provide nationally recognized sailing
certifications. The other one is US Sailing. Both organizations have good
programs. For various reasons, 80% of the keelboat certifications issued are
through ASA.

I took every class save one that the ASA offers.
Then I attended one of their instructor qualification clinics
Then I got a coast guard captains license

Now I teach sailing and celestial navigation at two local ASA schools. The
captains license also affords me the opportunity to do charters.

Because of my school affiliations, I have managed two trips to the Abacos and
one trans-atlantic crossing, expenses paid.

Every issue of the ASA intructor news letter contains a page of instructor
help wanted ads from all over the country.

If you are chasing money, this ain't it. If you are chasing life style, it
might just suit you.
