Thanks to all. George Huxtable and Walter Guinan both accidentally
wrote off list, and Paul on list, pointing out that the principle of
equivalence precludes the accelerometers distinguishing gravity from
acceleration. Since that principle is the underlying basis of
relativity, my question was way off the mark.
My only excuse is that if anyone else had the same problem, it is now
well straightened out.
