Europa is Dutch flagged, and mostly makes her living carrying "voyage
crew"/trainees (like me). She's rigged as a bark, which means 3
masts, 2 square-rigged (fore and main) and one gaff-rigged (mizzen,
the aft-most). She's 180 feet overall, and IIRC about 140 on deck;
steel-hulled, and steel lower masts, with wooden topmasts and above.
I think all of the yards are wooden. She carries a full set of
studding sails as well.
Most of her career was spent as a German lightship; she was built in
1912, and renovated in the 1980's.
For this run I think we'll have about 15 permanent crew and 25 voyage crew.
Europa visited Seattle in August as part of the tall ship festival,
and had the "come sail with us around Cape Horn" message prominently
displayed.
