Subject: Re: GPS and Great Circle

I have just done a quick experiment with my Lowrance Globalmap 100.
Picking a waypoint due west of here sends me on a great circle route
starting in a direction always north of west, the exact azimuth
depending on how far around the globe I put the waypoint up to 180
degrees away. It is what I have always taught my GPS students: the
receivers always send you on a Great Circle route. I don't know of any
models which allow for rhumb line navigation.
