Jared Sherman sent the posting, copied below, to the list. I replied,
inadvertently, to Jared directly rather than to the list. Jared has
responded to that reply via the list, and listmembers will not have seen
what he was referring to. Below, then, is a copy of my reply to Jared. As
for his posted response to that, there isn't a lot of ground separating his
position from mine. George.

Well, I for one am all in favour of the free-and-easy open nature of the
web. Most of those posting material do not expect to maintain or enforce
any copyright on it, I suspect. If they do, they should say so. So I think
Jared's description of the messages as being "stolen" is unnecessarily
pejorative. If it was a message I had written, I would be quite pleased to
find it being quoted.
Beware the narcissistic pleasures of entering ones own name into a
search-engine! Jared's message could open up an interesting topic for
discussion.
