Racing Watches?

hi,
i'm a new racer, and am getting outfitted with the proper gear for racing.
i am interested in hearing any recommendations for watches, and compasses.
i'm just starting to look, and am unfamiliar with the options. i see that
sunco (?) has some with compass as well as stopwatch features. and, i've
seen the ones that only do countdown, with a big faceplate. some have both
digital and analog. some actually count down out loud. also, what about
devices to get wind speed? any recommendations that would get me outfitted
would be greatly appreciated.
