Subject: Historical Sextant/Octant accuracy

The discussion on accuracy leads to another intriquing question. What was
the accuracy of the instruments that were available in the past? How would
the accuracy of Capt. Cook's sextant or Joshua Slocum's compare to modern
instruments?
