I too teach grad and post- grad medical interns, residents, and research fellows.
May I weigh in with Ms. Seefer's attempt to learn a bit from those with experience
and knowledge in the particular matter.

What matters it if learning takes place in classroom, laboratory, on-line or on the
high seas? Of course the type of experience will differ. One does not become able to
handle a ship from a book any more that a surgeon can become competent in a
classroom.

But...receiving useful and correct information should not depend on the formality of
the environment where achieved. And my personal view is the morality lectures are
quite inappropriate!
