I like J.E.D. Williams, "From Sails to Satellites, The Origin and Development
of Navigational Science", Oxford University Press, 1992, ISBN 0-19-856387-6.
It has a broader scope than the other two books. Jed Williams was Managing
Director of Britannia Airways and president of the Royal Institute of
Navigation.
