    Sounds similiar to the way the Corsair F-28 boats do it. I have a friend
    with a F-28 and have sailed with him a lot. On the mast end of boom there is
    like you described. With the F-boat the whole boom rotates and the main
    rolls up on the outside of the boom in seconds. It's really cool!!!! and
    works really well - especially when short crew. On a similiarly sized race
    boat it takes us three crew and several minutes to take down and roll the
    sail.
