I can only tell you what I did.
I bought a Wilcox-Crittenden "Skipper". I bought it when I was working and
had plenty of cash. Now they the MSRP is about a grand. So for the crew
head, I bought a used one from a neighbor and rebuilt it.
The unit is all solid bronze with a 4" pump. The only part that has worn out
so far (since 1988) has been the leather washer on the pump piston. We don't
rely on the check valves but welded an "Apollo" 1 1/4" ball valve onto the
discharge hose fitting to positively shut it off. We also use the shower
hose fresh water to flush.
All that said, I have been looking closely at the Sunmar composting toilet as
we have not yet installed the used Wilcox unit in the crew head yet. The
last time I checked, the manufacturer's brochure stated that the marine unit
could handle only part-time use by two people so we have backed off.
