I asked my mom what she uses -- she does these things much better than I do,

There is a liquid product by the name of WHINK that comes in a brown bottle
that is excellent for removing rust stains from fabric.It is about a 6 ounce
bottle.You squirt a small amount on the rusty spot and you can see the rust
disappear then you rinse the item thoroughly and laundry as usual.I think it
costs about 3.00
