We're back on land again!
Well, it was an exciting International Lighthouse / Lightship Weekend for 1999!
We found the cndx at W2L (Thimble Shoals Light in the Chesapeake Bay) to be very poor -- made only
612 contacts, mostly on 40 meters. (What happened to K2AA and N2OB?)
Now on to the year 2000 event, which is scheduled for 0001 hours UTC, August 19th, until 2359 hours
UTC on August 20.
By the way, you can work lighthouses anytime -- it doesn't have to be just during the annual
weekend. From time to time I will be at different lighthouses in New Jersey, Delaware Bay, or
Maryland; and, although I'll be using my regular K2JXW call and not the special event call of W2L,
the contacts from the Chesapeake will still qualify for the Chesapeake Bay Lighthouse Award.
Finally, QSL's and certificates will be mailed out as soon as I get them printed. Everybody I worked
who sends an SASE will get one -- just give me a little breathing room to catch up. (I had over 1400
e-mails while I was gone, not to mention voice mails and snail mails.)
Don't forget to join the Ham Radio Lighthouse Newsgroup (ListBot) on the web page. Details are on
the page at www.waterw.com/~weidner/ld.htm . Over 100 enthusiasts in several different countries
have joined so far in just two weeks. This will act as a kind of bulletin board to post anything you
wish related to ham radio and lighthouses.
If you are planning a lighthouse operation at any time, post the details to the list. Also post QSL
and award details if you have them.
