RE: 1 month acquisition periodRecently some posted a question about why the had to wait until September 22 for their GPS to "settle down" and get back to normal after the EOW rollover. I sent the question to Garmin and here's their answer. Makes sense to me.

Thank you for contacting GARMIN. MultiTrac 8 receivers (from our first models) will gather almanac data from the satellites about every 30 days. This almanac data tells the unit where and which satellites to look for. Basically, because of the rollover, the unit does not have the correct almanac data. Depending on when the last time the unit gathered the almanac data, the unit may have to wait 30 days to gather more. Worst case scenario is the unit updated the almanac on the 21st of August which means it will take 30 days to ask again. Best case is the unit acquired a little after July 22. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Could you please explain to me why, if EOW rollover occurred on August 22nd, I'll might be having slow acquisition for a month - to September 22nd? I would have thought that once it "rolled over" that was it.
