I had earlier reported that my Garmin 45 (software version 2.42) survived the
EOW rollover without mishap. This turned out not to be true. It did indeed
sail through the rollover itself while acquired, but the next time I tried
it, no acquisition. Garmin's instruction to hold the "Page" button while
turning it on did force it to the long battery-eating "Search the Sky"
acquisition mode, which worked OK but is very undesirable for everyday use.
I downloaded the software fix, but unfortunately the application requires a
Wintel computer and we use Macs. Garmin refers to the problem as a
"temporary period of slow acquisition", implying to me that at some future
date the fix will not be required. Anyone know just what is behind the
"temporary" statement?
