I may be remodeling my boat in such a way that I will be doing a new ice box
& freezer. My question is what is the ideal size for ice box & freezer. I
read a lot, but have seen little hard numbers. One number I saw was 10
cubic feet for refer & freezer (not counting insulation). My existing ice
box seems to be about 8 cubic ft. It has been argued that there is no point
in more than 4-5 cubic feet for the refer, as more contents would not keep
long enough anyway. A lot of freezer size could be quite valuable.
I wonder what people who actually live aboard think about ideal size. We
can set aside energy and other issues for the moment. There are no
mechanical constraints (for the sake of discussion), but I do have major
room constraints. So I want as small as possible from the point of view of
space consumption, but want the boxes to be big enough to support long range
live aboard cruising. Any idea.
