I did "just follow directions" and it didn't work.
After an hour of fighting busy signals at Garmin, they have confirmed
that re-initializing will not work with my GPS120 and are sending
the required upgrade, etc.
Apparently extropolating one experience with a particular Garmin
model and version is a long inductive leap for a different model
and version....
Hopefully all will eventually be well.

Just follow directions. The patch specifically addressed to
the EOW is only to
set a date and is not necessary in most cases to reacquire the
satellites.
Just reinitialize your unit. It says how on the same listing
of products on
the web page.
Some older units have software patches to fix various problems,
but I don't
think any are related to the EOW issue.
I have a 45 (v 2.53) and a 12 as backup, and both are working
great. I had to
reinit the 45 just like it says in the instructions, but the
12 rolled over
like a champ.
Good Luck,
