I was in a bit of a rush when I posted the first message and did not go into
why I wanted to know about the two products.

First though, I would not use anything like either of them on our own boat.
So those of you who have responded in that vein, please feel at ease. Time
& Tide will not be subjected to anything like that.

Now... for the rest of the story...:-)

Though I may not use it, there are those who do. I was asked today about
what recourse someone would have who used a product and it did damage to
their boat. Apparently an individual decided he needed to use a product
like this, so he went shopping. While comparing products he noticed that
the Ta-Ke product had a warning label on it that said it would stain
fiberglass, etc., the West Marine version of the same (?) did not. Based on
that, he (rightly or wrongly) decided to use the West Marine product on his
boat. Since I am asking this question, he obviously found that it stained
    his fiberglass as well.

Now, my first answer was to ask the obvious question... are the two products
the same? No one knew and when we called West Marine (local stores) they
were unable to go and read the containers. So, though I understand how they
work, etc., I do not know if they are the same, i.e., is the West Marine
version a repackaged Ta-Ke (or something similar) or something completely
    different?

Now, the other main discussion went along the lines of what condition his
gel coat is in... If it is in poor condition, then obviously almost
anything will stain them, if it is in good condition then we have more to
discuss. Since I do not have the boat available to me, the whole thing may
be moot, but I did say I would try and find out what the ingredients are in
    the two products.

Now, if they are the same... why does one have a warning label and the other
    does not?

    Thanks

    John
