    You may need to turn on the unit in the manner described until 9/21/99. The
    software update will save you from having to reinitialize with each boot-up.
    We have decided to just reinitialize each time rather than have to go buy a
    special cable and dl software.

        Following the instructions from Garmin. I reinitialized my GPS 75 (by
    holding down the "0" key while pressing the PWR key, and releasing both)
    in less than 20 minutes it had reaquired the satellites(make sure the
    antenna has a clear and unobstructed view of the sky) and returned to normal
    operation. I did not have to use the software update from Garmin.
