My Trimble NavGraphic II, vintage apprx 1988, was said by the company to be
"unfixable" (hee hee). It's a dual Loran/GPS, and reverts to Loran when it
has no fix.
However, watched it thru the witching hour, which on the East Coast was 13 sec
before 8pm EDT, and nothing happened all night -- well, most of the night. (GPS
time runs 13 sec early compared to UTC).
Today, it's still working, but outages to Loran happen every few minutes. It
also seems to be accessing poor geometries (satellites that are nearly in the
same direction) so that I get very unusual GDOPs (Geometric Dilution of
Precision) up to 12 (read: lousy fix), where they are almost always 1 or 2.
This, when there are several satellites that have stronger signals and better
geometries, according to data displayed at the same time on the same unit!
I'll be watching it over the next several days. I wish it would either fail or
work. Now I don't know whether to plan to replace it or not.
Anyone else have this unit??
