I replaced seven gate valve seacocks with stainless ball valves last year.
The surveyor noted them on the purchase survey and the insurance company
required them to be replaced during the next winter layup. Even though
they all operated, it was impossible to tell position by visual inspection
and even when tightly closed, several still leaked slightly.
I'm very happy with my new seacocks.....
