Whenever I meet a surveyor, I ask about these. The usual answer is "boats
that have 'em usually have less damage."

I understand that lightning doesn't like to turn corners, and will leap
somewhere else when faced with one......have you considered a removable bar
to span the distance from mast step to keel?

I would think that *some* of it *will* come down the mast and perhaps arc to
the well-grounded shrouds.

As you seem to know, lightning likes a large *surface area* , so why not use
copper strips, let into the amas so they're flush, rather than wire?
