In a message dated 8/18/99 4:04:37 PM Eastern Daylight Time,
     writes:

    << We try
to keep all vehicles either full or within a half a tank of full. For
the dink, we turn off the gas and run the motor till it stops hoping
to clean out the carburetor this way.

This is an excellent idea for any outboard that won't be used for a while. I
do a lot less carb cleaning since I learned this trick. The only drawback is
a little more trouble starting, but once you learn a technique that gets gas
back to your engine with the minimum cranking, and without flooding, you
    don't even notice anymore.

It is possible for gas in a can or in a vehicle tank to actually
decompose and 'go bad'. It smells terrible. It's happened to us in
two trucks that sat for a long time (i.e. months). Gums the
carburetor up something awful. I don't think it would happen in as
short a time as a month though.

For sediment in the gas, I'd think you could filter it out. For
water, you could (if you knew it was there) decant it off. For actual
decomposed gas, you have to get rid of it, clean everything out and
start over. And even then if you don't get it really clean it will go
     bad again.

Gas stabilizer and filters -- both important for a reliable fuel system. On
problem, though...you can't decant the water off -- it's on the bottom. A
siphon hose or small pump hose that you can put in the tanks low spot will
work, though. Just be sure the mixture is well setteled and separated.

On this topic, my husband got a filter for filtering the diesel before
it is put into the tanks, but it is really slow. Is there a filter
than anyone would recommend that doesn't slow the filling process to a
     drop by drop pace?

The in-line filters with the replaceable canisters seem to work well and is
one of the things on my "to get" list.
