OK, a laptop hooked up to a cell phone via an interface box does give slow
access speed (we have our 56K modem maxed at 9600 bps), but that has yet to
stop us from accessing the internet. Yes, you pay by the minute, but we use
our "unlimited afterhours talk time" to do most of our stuff.
What really surprised me when we got the new computer was how much the speed
of the computer has to do with the speed at which we are able to download.
By going from 166 mHz, 16 meg RAM to 350 mHz and 64 megs download time is
now a third of what it used to be. This is most noticable when using the
internet.
Now, I wouldn't recommend creating and maintaining a website or anything...
and I was never one for hours of mindless surfing, so perhaps I am not an
unbiased observer...
