Do I have to keep wiping it up, or has anyone got a better solution? It
    doesn't
seem practical to add a sloping exterior piece.

You can, like I did, buy portholes with sloping spigots. The part that goes
through the cabin side slopes downhill draining the water automatically.

I installed 12 cabin trunk portholes with just 5200. No holes, no leaks.
