The old name on our boat was applied with paint. It was a real pain to remove. A
lot of stripping, a lot of sanding.
We didn't want a logo, just lettering, so we went to a vinyl sign place up the
street. They gave us a copy of the fonts they had available (and believe me, it
was a short list -- btw, you can get tons of free fonts on the web, but not all
enlarge well).
I sketched how I wanted it to look and sent it back for adjustments three times.
The guy came out and measured our transom, and a few days later we picked up the
vinyl strip.
It was very easy to apply. Bill hung over the transom while I stood on the dock
and said, "A little to the left... a little higher... not that high!" It brought
back memories of my poor dad holding huge heavy oil paintings against the wall
while my mom fussed, "A little to the left... a little higher... not that high!"
Then Bill just pressed it against the transom and rubbed it with a rag to remove
any bubbles. It came out pretty well, although we would have liked the letters to
be larger.
