One of the first things we did to our rig was to install 10-32 hex-head
screws and Nylok nuts in place of the turnbuckle cotters. Very fast removal
and install with the appropriate hex drivers, which I have equipped with
lanyards. Of course the turnbuckles have to be fairly large (ours are 5/8")
to use screws, but it sure beats cotters. BTW, the PO used a method of
cottering which we like very much and have retained on the rest of the rig:
Using cotters about an inch longer than "normal", the ends are bent around in
a circle, like the spring on an escapement. This "encloses" the end within
the circle, preventing anything from catching on it.
