e-mail communications with manufacturers (was Re: lv-ab: Australian Winch Co.)

    FWIW, there were many occasions over the past year that I tried to use e-mail
    to communicate with manufacturers. At $5.00/minute to connect through Cable
    & Wireless in the BVIs and other islands it made a lot of sense. However, in
    *every* case, I had to make a phone call to get a response. It looks like the
    older firms will be slow to use e-mail regularly, whereas it's about the only
    way that "young" firms want to communicate.
