I'll bet that the FCC and/or FAA will prosecute yachties who equip their
boats with VHF units intended for aircraft. I also doubt that the ship
station licence permits their use. There is enough mis-use of marine VHF as
it is, at least in coastal waters. As an airline passenger, the prospect of
yachtie kids "having fun" with a pilot who may be preparing to land is a
very scary thought.
