One of my co-workers told me this morning that he saw a news story on
Fox News last night talking about how the city of Oakland, CA was
moving to remove all the liveaboards from the Port Of Oakland Marinas.
Did anyone else catch this? I know that the port was starting to crack
down on some of the non-operational boats being used as cheap housing
by putting a putt-putt rule into place.
>From what I heard one of the liveaboards wrote to the Oakland Mayor
complaining that his/her rights were being violated and that the port
should be made to back off. This resulted in the city coming down even
harder on the liveaboards. It should be noted that there are no legal
liveaboards in the Oakland marinas. I guess it goes to show that if you
are not a legal liveaboard you have to keep your head down and accept
the fact that you have no right to live where you want to no matter how
long someone has let you get away with it.
I am glad I finally got a legal liveaboard slip and so ending 4 years
of sneaking around trying to be unnoticed.
