RE: your question on refers and insulation

I like (personal opinion here) to keep as much stuff as I can 12v. This
allows me to benefit from solar panels, engine or generator running, shore
power, etc. I went with a Glacier Bay 12v cold plate system. This system
seems to be the most efficient and allows me to work in all configurations -
sailing, motoring, anchored, or at the dock - with just one system. Dual
systems like 110 and engine drive sacrifice efficiency and require you to
run the engine a lot when not at a dock. The system has been in and working
well for a year and my amp usage as measured by my link 2000 is exactly what
Glacier Bay predicted after analyzing my box size (actually, it is slightly
    better).

Though I haven't seen it in person, a friend was impressed with the vacuum
    insulation they sell...jpc
