John,
First, my son John has an Alden 34 that he is completely rebuilding (Frames,
floor timbers and stem post to keel bolts.)
I have some answers to your questions (but everyone does things differently,
so they aren't answers for everyone)
Propane usage.
We have a 4 burner propane with large oven, bake a lot of bread, and make
lots of soups. We use one 10# bottle every 3 months. Others will be different.
Water heater - we had a 10 gallon, which was plenty, but when it died, we
replaced it with 12 gallons. We had one of our kids aboard until November
when she moved onto her own boat. You might not need so much. The less you
have, the faster it heats.
Electra San and holding tank. We had neither when we bought the Caper, but
have added an Electra San about 5 years ago, and this year are adding 80
gallons of holding. As you cruise, the requirements will be different in
different places.
Of course, are pretty cavalier about "remodeling". This year, we moved the
galley. Lived at a 10 degree list for about 6 weeks while everything sat on
the starboard side. (too painful to talk about :-))
Good luck with the rebuild.
Louise
