Hello All,
What we use for laundry while cruising is this:
We have a five gallon plastic bucket with a lid and one of those
pink colored plumbers plungers (not black).
We cut a hole to fit the handle in the center of the lid. Put the
clothes and a small amount of detergent inside, fill the rest with
water, put the lid on with the handle sticking through the hole and
agitate for a few minutes. Dump the soapy water, and wring the
clothes out (we use a portable wringer that can be clamped on the toe
rails or somewhere on the boat). Refill the bucket with clean rinse
water and repeat the process for a few minutes. Dump, wring and hang
up to dry. I use liquid bio-degradable detergent as opposed to granulated. This
system does a good job, and even better if you watch what kind of fabrics
you buy in the first place. Just don't use a black plunger, because the
black may come off on the laundry. For water, we generally leave two
buckets on deck and let rain fill them up when possible, then you
have the enhancement of soft water to wash in.
Cost of the equipment, not counting the wringer is less than five
bucks, and you can if careful wring by hand.
Happy rub a dub dub.
Chuck
