As Peter pointed out with his link if they are Li-Ion as your Sony most
likely is they should be stored discharged.
Also with the others...ni-cads self discharge pretty fast so you will
need to either re-charge or cycle them, cycle is better as they should
be discharged fully before re-charging...depending on who you ask that
