I use Simrad tiller pilot and it does not need any interface to communicate
with Standard Horizon chartplotter/GPS that I use. It connects directly with no interface
or multiplexer as long as it is the only communication. I use toggle switch
for steer to wind, to switch back and forth.

      Actually it's a Tiller-Pilot, Raymarine ST2000+.

Want to connect my aging Garmin 162 to it.

Raymarine manual says to connect NMEA in/out from Garmin.

Garmin manual says to connect the NEMA out and the ground wire to Tiller-Pilot.

Other people have told me I need to use a Raymarine interface to get it to operate.

      Any suggestions?

      Thanks
