Left Thursday for Norwalk Cove Marina and spent the night so the
engines would be cold when the stuffing boxes were worked on. trip was
uneventful ( went down the Hudson river around the tip of Manhattan,
up past South Street Seaport and passed the UN Plaza. Out through
hells gate (not sure what the tides were... didn't care really) and
into the LI Sound). The engines were running good at 2000 rpm
(basically held 14 knots. In 3 - 4 hours (closer to 3) went into the
Norwalk Islands (a bird Sanctuary) and into the marina. Not a bad trip
    by myself... lonely though.

Wife took the Train up and met me there. Found out no more liveaboards
allowed there either :sad2: . Cooked on the at deck. Next morning
found out the stuffing boxes were fine, however, the problem was the
screws for the sea strainers. Had to get short hauled. 2 throughbolts
later and 2 screws with sealant we splashed and after fueling again
headed out to the sound and towards Block Island. had about 95 miles
to go on the GPS. Set the rpm's at 2000 with the synchronizer (around
13-14 knots) at 2:30 pm or thereabouts.

We entered the Race after dark, around 8 pm with no radar and just the
GPS to guide us. Along the way to the race i was against the wind and
had a starboad stern quarter slap from the waves. Not sure of the
current but that might not have helped either. but then who knows LOL
never looked at Eldridge that weekend. or, if i had the current, it
was not that much LOL. The Race is interesting in that a lot of boats
fish right in it and are lit up like christmas trees! After we got
into Block Island Sound, got a 5 knot push straight into Pitch Black
    Seas.

The seas were still from the same side but i throttled back to 1500
rpm and went at 15 knots over to Block Island with nary a thought
about lobster and crab pots. Couldn't see them anyways. As i
approached the buoys for the inner channel I tried to turn on th
searchlight. Nope that didn't turn on. So we pulled out the hand held
and worked as a team going in through the 100' wide channel. Find me
the buoys dear. Thn we encountered the mooring field Sheesh. No
channel to the fel dock marked and no one on the radio at 10 pm
either. :bu: . So went through the mooring field slowly with both the
    throttles and transmission working overtime.

Finally backed into a spot right next to the Tiki bar. Not bad for our
first night run together and first time to Block Island. Ran around
the island on Saturday and planned the trip back to NYC for Sunday.
(note to self, need to make 3 fender boards :D )

Left late on Sunday due to Island time. Set the RPMs for 1500 and ran
all the way home through Block Island Sound and Long Island Sound
through the east river and up the hudson. Left around 8:30 am (latest)
and got in at 10 :15 pm :D. not too bad and only ran at about 8gph for
    that leg :D
