I had the same problem . Bought a USB/serial converter and it took several
attempts to get my Garmin 12xl to talk to the Toshiba. The problem came
every time I connected. The mouse could not be controlled and was constantly
clicking all over the screen. After a month or so I bought a Deluo usb mouse
for real short monet. It works flawlessly. http://www.deluo.com/

My old laptop died, so I got another, installed my chart-plotting software.
but there is no serial port to plug in the GPS. Is it as simple as just
    connecting a USB/Serial connector?

    Thanks
    Steve

Vienna! But there's no sailing in Vienna?

I belong to a Yahoo list, the ads are blocked, it's OK, it's the
'moderator' that is a pain. It's the content we have that is so valuable,
the vehicle doesn't matter to me. And let me add my thanks to Stefan, eh?
