This sounds good. First, how is the monitor interfaced with the laptop and second, how is visibility? We had serious problems viewing our first laptop in anything other than a dimly lit room. Our second laptop, a Lenovo, is viewable in sunlight.

I have a 17" LCD monitor at the upper helm, connected to the laptop at
the lower helm. I just bought an el cheapo monitor ($139) and it works
great. When I am not using it I put in under the console, covered by a
plastic garbage bag. I have been doing this for two years and it is
still going strong. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse at the upper
helm, and just use the keyboard and touchpad on the laptop when down
below.
For the price, I figure if I have to replace it every couple or three
years, it is worth it.
