The other day I took a look at dome type satellite antennas made for RVs.
The folks at the store said that they didn't think they would work because
there was more movement on a boat and they weren't made for the marine
environment.
Since we would only be using it at anchor the movement issue would be moot.
And since they are enclosed in a plastic housing I suspect they could be
made vapor tight. They seem to start at around $700 for a complete system
and I presume go up from there for more fancy setups.
The main problem seems to be getting the major network channels (NBC, CBS,
etc) from the service suppliers, DishTV and DirectTV without lying. The
FCC requires they offer the major network channels to RV and commercial
trucks in the form of local broadcasting from several major cities, but say
nothing about boats. The suppliers deny such service to boats so one has
to lie to be able to see these programs. The only reason I can fathom is
that the local advertisers are afraid the local boaters will miss their
sales pitches and have put pressure on the service providers to keep
boaters from seeing feeds from other cities.
