I dont know why they would be any different than those you have, but my
heavy duty white plastic zippers have been on the boat for about 10 years,
and it gets pretty sunny and hot here in Med. Spain. Most of the vinyl
material has bees sewn in such a way as to provide a 'flap' that covers the
zipper, but the rear access panel in our fully enclosed cockpit is fully
exposed. I had to have the stitching to the vinyl redone, but not the
zippers.
Maybe they make a 'sun friendly' zipper here in Spain?

I hate velcro! Always catching on your clothes, always filling with thread
and lint. HOWEVER I have some ELASTIC 'hook and loop' that will stretch by
about 30% and that is neat!!. It has been used on the bottom of snow pants,
around rope and electric cable loops, fishing rods, furled sails, skis and
poles, anywhere where you want the 'hook and loop' to stay snug despite
movement and flex.
