Hello,
This is my first post. I've been living aboard in Maine for 9 months
now.
Made it through a fiercely cold winter with a diesel stove and a
plenum I
made that wrapped around stove pipe and attached to a small stereo fan.
I was warm all winter because the fan (on a 10' alum laundry hose) could
be placed anywhere. sometimes I wore a warm hat but never needed gloves!
My vessel is a 27 Bristol. It was an empty shell last summer and is
still a simple
ship-ette. I barrier coated the hull and it is freshly awl gripped.
Installed (with help)
new coamings and got simple manual plumbing working - made a deck
grill out of a number
10 tin can that actually worked fine for keeping coffee hot underway.
When the weather got
tantalizing and I just started sailing and learning the boat. I've
ducked in to a marina for the
winter and have done almost nothing. I can't fired up to work in a
slip- not with cable TV
and wireless internet...
So it's starting again now. I have a haul out coming up in two weeks
and a few bucks to
overhaul her. No name yet, leaning towards TRUANT (today.)
I have to buy (right away) a full AC/solar system (no inboard
engine), some NAV gear, a dinghy and a wifi hook
up.
Two things to ask-
Did I see someone on this list offer his wholesale discount for
marine purchases for a 2% fee?
I could swear I saw that in the archives but can't find it now.
Also what are people doing for data packages away from the marina but
in coastal waters?
I have found a novatel ux 801 (express 34) for my macbook but it's
$360. Cingular is 60/month
I wonder if there is another express 34 card for less than the novatel.
I've tremendously enjoyed reading the archives and am glad to find
y'all.
cheers,
