Bill,
Velcro seemed to last just a long as zippers, especially in areas
that I "worked" frequently.
I eventually resorted to stainless steel snaps for the frequently
used areas, (daily, multi-weekly) and kept the velcro for the less
frequently used areas.

Help!
After the second trip out on Oh, My! this spring. I have found that
almost every zipper on the sail cover, dodger, bimini, and side
curtains has some part that has deteriorated and needs replacement.
In the past I have replaced some with black zippers hoping that color
might be more resistant to sun damage. I doesn't seem hold up any
better. These covers offer some protection for the zippers and they
have lasted a few years even the zippers inside the dodger which do
not ever get full sun are failing after 5 years or so. It seems in
2007 there should be a better alternative to replacement every three
years or so but I say that about varnish and the alternatives as well.
My bride says heavy duty Velcro is just as strong and if it doesn't
last longer it would at least be easier to replace. Has anyone tried
this alternative?
If zippers are the only solution, who makes the best ones and where
is a good place to shop?
Thanks for any advice!
Bill
