Sorry, but you need to consider finding a new dream. It is over in the
Keys!
I've lived onboard for over 20 years (mostly in Texas), the last 5 in
Marathon. I've been visiting the Keys for over 30 years.
T H E Y do not want you (only your money) there! They - politicians,
developers & new Keys residents.
T H E Y don't want you (the liveaboard) anywhere in the state of Florida.
They - the state, the counties, the cities, the developers, the insurance
companies...... Did you plan to have insurance? Good luck! They actually
have laws against living aboard year round on state bay bottoms etc..
Wealthy tourists & snow birds GOOD, full time residents BAD.
Despite a desperate need for people willing to do low paying, menial service
related jobs (due to lack of affordable housing)... they still don't want
you there. They bus people in from Miami to work at Publix! Immigrants
willing to live 12 to a trailer or in dorms are the rest of the work force.
The waterfront property is worth way too much to waste it on marinas or boat
yards (you will need to haul out occasionally, won't you?) or to have high
dollar condos' & mansions' views obstructed by the likes of you!
If you want a taste of the new Keys just visit the on going 18 mile stretch
construction project where they are widening the road, at the expense of the
mangroves, all living creatures & the water quality. But mangroves are
protected aren't they? Not for the right amount of $$$$. We won't even
mention the lack of sewer systems & what that has done to the water
quality.... despite the fact they blame it all on boaters.
If you want to live where you are not wanted & like being hassled by the
authorities & land owners.... have at it!
No...I am not bitter, just angry at what the Keys have become & very, very
sad. This is all IMHO.... just in case someone objects to what I have said.
