Well we are going to take the plunge. We've been lurking here for
several years and in September 07 our youngest will be 18, in college
and living in our paid off house with our other kids who are in college.
My wife and I are both 47 and reasonable well preserved. We have read
all the books and susbscibed to Live Aboard magazine. We are both
CG-Aux mwmbers and have been into boats 30 years.
We will be liquidating everything else except our 30' cabin cruiser that
I have completely restored as a micro live aboard. We are starting out
"shooting for the stars" and heading down the Ohio River to Key West.
Even thought we both have graduate degrees, we hope to find a couple of
low wage jobs in the Keys and find a way to anchor out, tender in, small
slip, (i.e. get by) until we make some connections. We want to be snow
birds between the Keys and Ohio each year. Everyone says this will be
just about impossible, but what the heck. We also figure marinas and
slips that are real values in the keys will not be found/advertised on
the web.( Private E-mails are welcome if you know of any).
We figure we will work our way north, starting in Key West until we can
find a way to make it happen. Worst case, we have family in Tampa and
and RV. We also have family in Corpus Christi, but prefer the Keys. Any
suggestions, ideas from those who have succeeded as working transient
live aboards welcome.
