imo, leaving a battery connected while on AC power poses little or no
risk. Sure there have been some models recently that have had issues
(Sony batteries anyone?); but if you do the numbers (fires vs number
of laptops in use) then you will see its more risky sailing through
the Red Sea :)
fyi, I have 10 laptop users in my office who leave their battery
connected. They have been doing this for at least 4 years (originally
using Dell's, now using IBM/Lenovo's). The only downside I have seen
is slightly reduced battery life. As for myself, I have my laptop
powered on almost 24x7 (yes the battery is connected).
