I have true ceramic heaters that are several years old and still going.
But then winters here in the Chesapeake are not like they are in Canada
- even though it is about 20 degs now and dropping...
My problem with the vertical oil-filled is two fold.
One) they can tip over. That's the beauty of the heavy little ceramic
cubes. Have to go past 60 degs heel to flip them, and then even on
their side they won't burn. Later models have a tip-switch.
Two) they can get real hot! I've experienced such units too hot to
touch.
Combo of heat & easy to tip rules them out of my sailboat. But if I
could find oil filled baseboards that were not too hot to touch...
I recall reading a long time ago on a list serve that a fellow had taken
a 220v baseboard heater and put a 110 plug on it. Said that it heated
nicely but never too hot for safety. Don't know if it is so, or if my
memory is accurate. Anyone know if this would work?
