I agree.
All my traveling offshore or near shore is pre-planned and entered as a
Route in my GPS, (and saved as a file).
I also make note of the shallowest point along the route and set my
depthfinder alarm for a bit short of that.
Having all the navigation done before we weigh anchor leaves us to
concentrate on collision avoidance and enjoying the ride.
We have rarely made use of harbors of refuge but when we did it was a bit
of a scramble to get and upload the waypoints. It would have been better
to have at least the main waypoints to the secondary anchorage already
entered in the GPS and then we could manually do a GOTO to each waypoint.
