While waiting and dreaming we've had a lot of time for reading. With the last in college, hopefully we're getting close.

Most of the books that I've read that related to sailing solo would indicate one thing. Don't!!!

Here are a few great books (IMHO), I'll list some more later after I dig them out. My all time favorite sailing writer is Herb Payson. I've read his books more than once and still get a big laugh.

"Maiden Voyage" by Tania Aebi - The story of solo circumnavition by an 18 year old. Fantastic.

Books by Herb Payson - "Blown Away", You Can't Blow Home Again", "Advice to the Sealorn" - Not Solo sailing, but really entertaining.

"Adrift" by Steven Callahan - Solo sailing at it's worst. The story of a guy drifting in a life boat for 75 days after a wreck. He wasn't on deck, so he never did know with what. Fantastic, but it could keep you awake at night. Yes, he does survive. He's the author.

I find "how to" books pretty boring. I prefer reading of real life experiences, and the lessons learned. Most of the books I've read are about couples, but I do have a lot of others, including "how to", if you're interested.

I'm looking forward to retirement and a sailboat about 30' long on the west
coast of Canada. My wife, whom I love dearly, has promised to come along
"occasionally", but warns that I must be willing to sail by myself more than
    with her.

I'm going to be taking some sailing courses to brush up on skills that have
rusted in 20 years away from the water. However, I'm also looking for good
reading, in order to learn lessons from others' experience.

Has anyone any suggestions he or she can offer?

    Thanks.
