When setting up my own batteries I used the same wire, in your case the 1/0.
I used clamping type copper terminals I got from Home Depot. They have a
set screw that bears down on a clamp that puts considerable pressure on the
wire. My Trojan L-16s have threaded studs for the terminals.
I coated everything with Vaseline which has been melted in a pan with some
water in it. I then removed some of the liquid Vaseline and stirred in a
couple tablespoons of baking soda, then let it cool off again. This
mixture does a good job of keeping corrosion at bay.
